STORY 01

OpenAI Models on Amazon Bedrock

AWS expanded its partnership with OpenAI, allowing customers to access OpenAI models — including GPT-4o and o1 — directly through Amazon Bedrock. This landmark move consolidates the AI model marketplace on AWS, enabling enterprises to access best-in-class models without leaving their existing cloud infrastructure.

☁️

$ COST IMPACT

No need to manage separate AI infrastructure or pay for standalone OpenAI API accounts.

PERFORMANCE IMPACT

Faster deployment of generative AI solutions with native AWS security and compliance built in.

💻

STORY 02

Codex on Amazon Bedrock

OpenAI's Codex coding agent became available through Bedrock, bringing AI-assisted development directly into the AWS stack. Engineering teams can now automate code generation, review, and testing workflows natively within their cloud environment.

$ COST IMPACT

Reduced development costs by automating repetitive coding tasks.

PERFORMANCE IMPACT

Faster software release cycles with AI-assisted code generation and review.

🤖

STORY 03

Amazon Bedrock Managed Agents

AWS introduced managed agent services that simplify the creation and deployment of AI agents at enterprise scale. These agents can autonomously execute multi-step tasks, call APIs, and query databases — all without custom orchestration code.

$ COST IMPACT

Eliminates the need to build and maintain custom orchestration layers from scratch.

PERFORMANCE IMPACT

Improved reliability, observability, and monitoring across all agent workflows.

STORY 04

Bedrock AgentCore

AWS enhanced AgentCore as the underlying orchestration platform for enterprise AI agents. AgentCore now supports long-running tasks, persistent memory, and secure tool invocation — making it production-ready for complex enterprise automation use cases.

$ COST IMPACT

Reduces custom development effort and lowers total cost of ownership for AI agent systems.

PERFORMANCE IMPACT

Improved multi-agent coordination and reduced latency in complex task execution.

⚙️

STORY 05

Graviton Expansion

AWS continued promoting Graviton processors, with major enterprise adoption from companies like Snowflake, Meta, and SAP. Graviton4 instances now offer up to 40% better price-performance compared to x86 alternatives, making them the go-to choice for compute-intensive cloud workloads.

$ COST IMPACT

Lower infrastructure spending for compute-intensive workloads — up to 40% cost savings.

PERFORMANCE IMPACT

Better energy efficiency and higher throughput per dollar across EC2 fleet.

QUICK TAKES

More updates worth your attention

Six more AWS announcements this month — summarised in under 30 seconds each.

🔐

AWS IAM Identity Center Update

AWS expanded Identity Center with cross-account attribute-based access control, simplifying permission management across large AWS Organizations.

📊

CloudWatch Metrics Insights GA

CloudWatch Metrics Insights is now generally available, allowing SQL-like queries across thousands of metrics for faster root cause analysis.

🗄️

Aurora PostgreSQL 16 Support

Amazon Aurora now supports PostgreSQL 16, bringing query parallelism improvements, better logical replication, and new developer-friendly SQL features.

🌐

CloudFront KeyValueStore GA

CloudFront's KeyValueStore is now GA, enabling edge functions to read configuration data without origin round-trips — cutting latency by up to 50%.

🛡️

GuardDuty Malware Protection for S3

GuardDuty now scans objects uploaded to S3 for malware in real time, helping teams meet compliance requirements without custom scanning pipelines.

📦

ECS Fargate Ephemeral Storage Bump

AWS increased Fargate ephemeral storage to 200GB, removing a common blocker for data-processing containers that previously required EFS workarounds.

THIS MONTH'S TIPS

3 things to implement this week

Practical, actionable advice from the Avertech cloud team.

01

Use Savings Plans over Reserved Instances

Compute Savings Plans now offer the same discounts as Reserved Instances but with far more flexibility across instance types and regions. If you haven't migrated yet, now is the time.

02

Enable S3 Intelligent-Tiering by default

For any bucket with unpredictable access patterns, S3 Intelligent-Tiering automatically moves objects to cheaper storage tiers. It pays for itself at over 128KB object sizes.

03

Tag everything from day one

Cost allocation tags are the single most impactful change you can make for cloud governance. Use a consistent tagging policy with Environment, Team, Project, and CostCenter at minimum.
